Training With Trust & Respect

 Ranger & B
Bernadette and Ranger, her Search & Rescue Dog.

For more than ten years Unleashed's owner / trainer Bernadette Pflug has been sharing her knowledge of animal behavior and training dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages.  Her philosphy is simple. Improve the life of both family and dog. With training, your unruly pooch can be transformed into a loving and controlable family member.

What does is take to make your dog happy? He will thrive when you give him mental and physical exercise, leadership and attention. This formula will help you to build a lasting relationship with your dog, based on mutual respect and trust. You can have a relationship with your dog deeper than you ever imagined and Bernadette can show you how.  With her training, you will have a happy dog and a happy family.

What makes for a happy family?  Families typically want their dog to:
* Come when called, every time, on or off leash.
* Walk nicely on leash,  without pulling
* Sit the first time you ask
* Lie down the first time you ask

Families also want their dogs:
* Not to jump on people
* Not to charge through doors
* Not to dig in the yard
* Not to bark and chew inappropriately
* Not to climb on furniture you prefer they avoid
* Not to steal food off the table and counters
* Not to be wild and uncontrollable
* Not to ignore you when you want their attention

Bernadette is experienced with many gentle training techniques, enabling her to customize a training plan that works for your individual dog. Since no two dogs are alike, a cookie cutter training approach doesn't work for every dog. From Chihuahuas to Great Danes, Bernadette has trained them all.

Her credentials include:
*Search & Rescue Trainer / Handler for 10+ years
*Assisting Colorado law enforcement agencies with rescue missions around the state.
*CPDT (Certified Pet Dog Trainer) Requires more than 300 hours of teaching group classes, an extensive written test, and recommendations from vets, clients, and other trainers.  Bernadette is the only CPDT in Boulder, Louisville, Lafayette, Superior, Erie, Broomfield, Arvada, Westminster, Niwot, Nederland, and more!
*Certified in the E-Touch & Force Free Method (tm)  www.chicagodogtrainer.com
*Graduate of Martin Deeley's International School For Dog Trainers  www.internationaldogschool.com
*Professional Member of both the APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) www.apdt.com & IACP (International Assoc. of Canine Professionals.)  www.canineprofessionals.com
*AKC CGC Evaluator   www.akc.org/events/cgc/

The ForceFree Method (tm) is an intuitive system of training that makes sense to both people and dogs. Effective and gentle, the training method works WITH the dogs instincts rather than against them. We achieve off leash reliability, even with distractions, amazingly fast. Most dogs perceive the training as simple "pack cooperation" and play. Therefore, they quickly shed rebellious behavior, and give you more focus than you imagined possible. Doesn't that sound like more fun than correction after correction?  This training method is amazingly gentle, uses no force, and works quickly with virtually all dogs.

In order to stay current on the latest training techniques and animal behavior research, Bernadette attends various seminars and workshops throughout the year, taught by some of the top professionals in the field of dog training.

Bernadette has handled dogs and been featured on Animal Planet, Channel 9 KUSA Denver, WB2 News Denver, Dog Fancy magazine, and the Denver Post.

Bernadette became passionate about training when she got her first really challenging dog. "Ranger," her German Shepherd puppy, had serious separation anxiety and a great desire for a job. After destroying Bernadette's house several times, she discovered an occupation he loved; Search and Rescue. With an outlet for his energy, Ranger stopped his destructive behavior and soon became Bernadette's trusted partner on search missions. Bernadette and Ranger certified as a wilderness trailing team, assisting local law enforcement and other SAR teams around the state in locating lost hikers, children, Alzheimers patients and others. Trailing is when a dog roughly follows the path a person has walked. Each person deposits their unique scent wherever they go and with the use of a scent article (anything worn close to the body) dogs are able to pick out that specific person's scent.

After an outstanding career as a search dog, Ranger passed away on September 16, 2007. He is greatly missed.

Bernadette currently lives with her husband, daughter and four wonderful canine companions; Cady, Axel, Cody, & Kohl. You may even get to meet them at her classes!

You can contact her at Unleashed (303) 554-9343.

Boarding School

Twice a month, Bernadette takes just one dog at a time for personal, one on one training. During their two week stay in our home, not a kennel, your dog will learn all the skills needed to be a polite companion. He'll return to you completely trained to be off-leash reliable. The investment for our boarding school program pays off for a lifetime. You'll be able to go everywhere together. All behavior issues are covered, including housebreaking, begging, jumping, stealing food, pulling on the leash, running away, not coming when called, door dashing, barking and just plain listening to their owner.

At the end of the two weeks, you'll receive a 2 hour orientation on how to maintain your dog's new and improved training.

Best of all, Bernadette's Boarding School training is GUARANTEED for the lifetime of your dog. Follow our instructions, and it's highly unlikely you'll experience loss of training but if you do, just call us at no charge. Telephone behavior consultations are free for the life of your dog. It's rare for us to receive such a call because our training and orientation are so effective. But most issues can be resolved easily on the phone. All boarding school graduates also receive FREE enrollment in any of Bernadette's group classes for life.
